Why Crafting Isn’t Just Fun — It’s Necessary Especially Rght Now

If you’ve ever sat down to make something with your hands — paint, yarn, glitter, whatever — and suddenly felt a little more you... you're not alone.

At HG Workshops, we’ve seen hundreds of people walk in with their shoulders up to their ears and leave lighter. Not because we solved their life problems (we’re good, but not that good), but because crafting gives you a moment of peace in a world that rarely pauses.

So what is it about crafting that makes it feel so good?

🧠 It gives your brain a break (and your nervous system a hug).

When you focus on a tactile, creative task — like blending colors or placing glass in just the right spot — you enter a state called “flow.” That’s science-speak for: your thoughts slow down, your body calms, and your phone stops mattering for five minutes. It’s the mental vacation you didn’t know you needed.

🫶 It’s low-stakes creativity.

There are no wrong answers when you’re pouring resin or building a sandy keepsake. There’s just you, your materials, and maybe a little glitter explosion if things go sideways (it happens). In a world full of pressure and performance, crafting is one of the few places where it’s safe to experiment — and even mess up.

🧍‍♀️ It brings people together.

We’ve had best friends reconnect over paint. Moms and daughters laugh through messy masterpieces. First dates turn into real conversations (and sometimes more — we see you, craft couples). There’s something about working with your hands that helps you let your guard down and just enjoy being in the moment — together.

Why I Do This

A little about me: I’m Laura. I run HG Workshops here in Northfield, and I built this space because I knew I wasn’t the only one craving a different kind of gathering place — one where people could create, connect, and take a deep breath without needing any experience, Pinterest boards, or prep work.

Crafting helped me during some of my hardest seasons. It gave me a sense of control, calm, and even joy. And I wanted to create a space that offered that same feeling to anyone who walked in.

So that’s what we do. We keep it simple, fun, and real. You walk in, pick a project off the craft menu, and we’ll walk you through it — start to finish.

Whether you’re here for a kids’ activity, a date night, a solo recharge, or just a reason to get out of the house — we’re ready for you.

Come Create With Us

We’re open for walk-in crafting every: Thursday–Saturday: 4 PM – 7 PM Sunday: 11 AM – 5 PM

You can also [make a reservation here] if you like having things on the calendar (we get it).

Can’t wait to see what you make — and more importantly, how it makes you feel.
